Sony PS3 consumes less power

Sony has moved on to the 65nm manufacturing process and the fruits of its labor is evident in the new 40GB PS3 that will be launched in the US on November 2nd. This 65nm Cell processor will drop power consumption from 200W to a more environmentally friendly 135W, while boasting a new motherboard revision along with an updated Southbridge. The reduction in power consumption has also resulted in a smaller heatpipe since the demands on it have gone down as well. Would you rather have backwards compatibility with PS2 games, a memory card reader and another two USB 2.0 ports compared to a more energy efficient processor?

Sony Ericsson devices aren’t exactly the most user friendly ones in town, partly due to the hardware and current UIQ user interface. It looks like the company has taken the latter into consideration by tweaking it to keep up with the times (and customers’ grouses, of course). No idea on when this new UIQ interface will be made available, but from what the pictures show, it looks pretty sweet and is definitely a vast improvement over its predecessor at first glance.

Could this be Sony Ericsson??™s iPhone-fighting UI - the Sony Ericsson Maria?

Everyone’s out to get the iPhone - that much is indisputable. With a clear edge in the UI department, manufacturers are scrambling to take on the full-touchscreen-based interface on the iPhone. Enter Sony Ericsson.
The Sony Ericsson Maria is the rumored iPhone-fighter with a full touchscreen.? From what we can see above, the UI is based on a new UIQ OS that is optimized for finger-based touch inputs. Could we possibly be looking at the Sony Ericsson Maria’s UI? We’ll just have to wait and see.
As many faults as the iPhone has, we gotta hand it to Apple for spurring the kind of innovation and development that the mobile space so badly needed. And it’s all about the (cough) touchscreen (cough).

Sony Ericsson SO705i

Here is the DoCoMo SO705i. The phone is made by Sony Ericsson and is part of NTT’s mid end 705i lineup. I think that this pales in comparison with the higher end SO905i and the SO905iSC (Cyber-shot with 5 mega pixel AF CCD camera with xenon flash and 3…

I am putting a question mark because I am not 100% that this is the new UI that will be on the Maria (supposedly the code name of Sony Ericsson’s full touchscreen device to combat the iPhone). However, from the presentation (zoom in), you can see it is…

We’ve already seen it passing the FCC hurdle and now it’s officially here. The small, candybar-shaped handset measures 103×46×16.7 mm and weighs just 82 grams. Don’t expect much of the features just the basic phone functionality and standard phone apps like alarm clock, calculator, calendar, phone book, stopwatch and timer pre-installed. In addition, the K205a also sports a VGA camera — meaning you’ll be able to take quick not-that-large snaps occasionally.
Now, you may be wondering (or not) where this baby’s heading. My guess would be AT&T, who is getting kinda hot on Sony Ericsson phones lately…
