That batch of new Sony Cybershots let loose this morning was quite a bit to digest all at once, so we thought we’d take a minute to go over one of the more interesting of the still-to-be-officially-announced cameras in greater detail, namely, the Cybershot G1. Apart from that new (for Sony) model name, the camera’s particularly notable for its big 3.5-inch (or possibly 3-inch) LCD and uncommonly spacious 2GB of internal memory. Though less unusual, the camera’s other specs are also nothing to sneeze at, with a decent 6 megapixel resolution, 3x optical zoom, Carl Zeiss Vario-Tesar lens, built-in WiFi, and Sony’s usual SteadyShot and Anti-Blur features. Still not clear, unfortunately, is the price, although as we mentioned earlier, that should be revealed by the end of the month.

That’s right, we’ve got ‘em — catalog shots for Sony’s 2007 Cybershot line-up of digital cameras. Go ahead, check the new T20HDPR, T100, T20, H9, H7, G1 (pictured), W200, and W90 Cybershots — you won’t be sorry. All the new cams bring Sony’s Super SteadyShot image stabilization and HD output to the show in addition to a hot mix of features spread out across the line; these include such notables as 802.11b/g WiFi with DLNA support, 2GB on-board memory for music playback, a 3-inch tilt-screen LCD, 3.5-inch (yes, 3.5-inch!) LCD, a couple of 15x optical zooms, face-detection technology, and BIONZ image processing — good to know. Judging by the pics, we can expect a formal, pre-PMA show announcement from Sony on 27 February. Check the gallery below for all the details.

Those Sony Video Walkman rumors are really picking up speed. We found out nearly a week ago that when it’s announced next month, it will essentially be Sony’s answer to the iPod nano (except with stellar battery life for video playback). And now comes news and a picture of the upcoming player, which has apparently been dubbed the NW-A800.

Sony Germany has a teaser image of the new Walkman and a live countdown on its website that basically confirms the gist of all the rumors. Exactly what will happen when the timer expires on March 1st is unknown; we’re hoping for an actual release, but maybe it’ll just be an official announcement and some information about availability.

And is it just us, or does the player look a lot like the Walkman phone? Different buttons, of course, but still pretty similar.

Sony files patent for Segway-like device

Electronics giant Sony has recently filed a patent application that features a skateboard-like product that is steered by balance and powered by a motor. This board comes with a couple of large wheels that are individually powered by a separate electric motor on either side of a flat platform. Steering is done via shifting one’s weight in the same vein as a Segway. Each board features a quartet of pressure sensors located at the corners to detect where the user is leaning. Those who aren’t too comfortable with the idea of just two wheels can settle for the tricycle and quad version for greater stability. There is no word on when such a product will be released. Hopefully they would do better in this compared to the current gaming division debacle.

Sony Ericsson W51S budget phone

Sony Ericsson engineers seem to have drawn some inspiration from Apple’s catalogue of computers when it comes to designing their most recent entry-level handset, the W51S. The front of this clamshell features a mesh-like appearance that brings back instant memories of the PowerMac G5 sans optical drive and USB ports. Apple loyalists will probably thumb their noses at this association, claiming it is nothing of that sort, but it all depends on perspective. Features of the W51S ain’t half bad for a budget cellphone, boasting a 2 megapixel camera, a 2.7″ color display, 120MB of internal memory, and a Memory Stick slot. Choose from black, gold, and pink colors when it is released on the Japanese KDDI network this spring at a yet unannounced price.

Sony’s been trying to kill off the iPod for years, but now it’s almost admitting defeat by releasing this CPF-IP001 iPod audio docking station. Except for a low-profile release…
